THE ROYAL WE (1999)
1. Message
We don't understand Bernie Bernie Headflap and its message of death yet.
We don't understand the message.
2. Manmaderocketshiprise!
3. The Northbounders (The Common We)
a young man from southeastern Pennsylvania makes his final trek to the King of Prussia Mall. He has to live on his own now and knows he'll never again be able to afford shopping there. He has just confronted his father, an in-the-closet homosexual former new wave wanna-be superstar-turned-politician running as an archconservative. The boy knows dad's secret and revealed this to his dad. Dad threw the boy out of the house, for starters. The boy is trying to figure out his very place in the universe.

yes you heard us
but you didn't understand
found us crawling, bawling
in a rock n roll bland
wonderin were we thought up
brought up
so that our fathers could
appear to be a family man?

I'm in my ivory Chevy Nova

please don't stall
and henceforth
we shall be what we wear
if we've got the werewithal
we're alive
headed for those marble halls
open til 10
hush hush
keep it down now
i've been banished from my homeland
4. Outcry
We were born. We were born, that's for sure.
But were we born, like Mr. David Byrne said, just to be playthings for our parents,
watch 'em stay up late at night?
And if that's so, what might that say about our souls,
our purposes in life?
And so we grow, this I know, slowly grow
Not only tired, so we grow
Who's to say, the inner hearts, the motivations for anything that happens in our dull and daily lives?
We can only hope for the purest explanations why our fathers took their wives.
CHORUS
Now I know it's been said many times many ways "Big boys, grown men don't cry."
But real guys outcry. Real guys outcry and live well a life that's well-defined.
So whip it good Orwell, no time for 1984, no time for explanations it was never 99, There is no time
If we turned out Oceania or Utopia's decided within each and every mind.
